At the designated time, departure to begin the tour of the capital of the Republic of Romania. The city was founded in the Middle Ages around a copper market (“bakr” in the local language of that time) that was held several times a year at this location on the banks of the Dambovitsa River. By the 15th century, Bucharest was already an important fortified city for the entire region. During our panoramic city tour, we will see the beautiful Archangels Michael and Gabriel Monastery, built next to an inn that was supposed to support it. We will also visit the Palace of the Romanian Parliament, the largest parliamentary building in the world, the Arch of Triumph, and other beautiful and interesting structures in the Romanian capital. We suggest taking the optional excursion (not included – additional cost) to "TRANSYLVANIA (DRACULA’S ROAD)”: Transylvania, which means “Beyond the Forests” in Latin, is a region of Romania in the Carpathian Mountains, full of history and cultural treasures. In Transylvania, we will see the magnificent buildings of Peles Castle and take a stroll through its romantic park. Next, we head to the city of Brasov. From above, the city looks like a giant Roman amphitheater comfortably resting on the slopes of the Carpathian Mountains. Founded in the Middle Ages, the city preserves fascinating structures and stories, such as the famous Black Church, which didn’t burn in the great fire of the 17th century—it just changed color. We will also visit the City Hall Square, Mureselinor Museum, Strada Sfoori (the narrowest street in the city), the Brasov Synagogue, and the Schei Gate. Finally, we will visit Bran Castle, located on the edge of a vertical rock like an eagle’s nest; it is filled with stories of wars, defeats, victories, and... vampires, starting with the famous Count Dracula. At the agreed time, we will begin our journey towards Sofia, the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. Upon arrival, we will take a tour of Sofia, one of the oldest cities in the world. We will visit two of its three levels, starting with the third, where modern life unfolds. In this area, we will admire the imposing Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, stroll through the central square, explore the buildings that house the National Gallery, enjoy the architecture of the National Theatre, and be amazed by the Banya Bashi Mosque. Next, we will head to the second level of the city, where we will uncover the Roman and medieval ruins that tell Sofia's rich history. We suggest taking the optional excursion (for an additional cost) “MONASTERY OF FILERIMOS - GRAND MASTER'S PALACE, OLD TOWN”: We depart from the cruise port towards Mandraki Harbor, where one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes, once stood. After a brief photo stop from the bus, we continue to the Filerimos Monastery, located on a hill above Ialyssos, about 10 km from the city of Rhodes. The monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Source of Life, and its architecture is quite different from that of typical Greek monasteries. It was built with stone in Gothic style, on the site of an ancient Byzantine monastery. After a short bus ride, we enter the Old Town surrounded by walls through the Amboise Gate, and take a detailed tour of Europe’s best-preserved palace, the Grand Master’s Palace of the Knights, where the Knights of Jerusalem once lived. The palace is surrounded by the largest medieval walls of the time and is now protected by UNESCO. After walking along the ancient pavements of the world-famous Street of the Knights, we will pass by the Knights’ Hospital and the Hippocrates Fountain. “ANCIENT CITY OF EPHESUS”: Departure from the port of Kusadasi, from here we will continue to the world-famous archaeological site of Ephesus for a walking tour. Ephesus is an exceptional testament to the cultural traditions of the Hellenistic, Roman Imperial, and Early Christian periods. Ephesus is an important site for Christianity, being one of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse. The Apostle Paul likely spent two and a half years in Ephesus during his third missionary journey. In about an hour, you will be exploring the city while walking on its marble streets. During the tour, we will see the Odeon, the State Agora, the Prytaneum, the Monument of Memmius, the Temple of Domitian, the Gate of Hercules, the Curetes Street, the Temple of Adrian, and the Latrines. We will continue our exploration with the Celsus Library, the Marble Road, the Commercial Agora, the Great Theatre, and the Arcadian Way (the road to the port).

“MONASTERY OF SAINT JOHN AND CAVE OF THE APOCALYPSE”: The Sacred Island of Patmos is located at the northwest tip of the Dodecanese, between the islands of Ikaria and Leros. A stunningly beautiful island that captivates visitors at first sight, with its picturesque port dominated by the impressive Monastery of St. John, located on the hill above. Departing from the port of Skala, you will travel to the charming village of Chora. The Monastery of St. John is nestled among bright white houses, forming a striking contrast with its dark mass. The blessed Christodoulos, servant of Christ, built the monastery in 1088. It features thick high walls crowned with battlements, and a total of eight chapels. The courtyard is paved with pebbles and decorated with arches, through which you can see the intricately designed frescoes that adorn the entrance of the chapel. The museum houses a magnificent collection of chalices, crowns, and jeweled crosses. There are also ancient writings dating back to 1073, icons, and religious paintings, including an original El Greco. Many items from the library, which unfortunately is not open to the public, can also be seen in the museum. The tour continues with a visit to the Cave of St. John, which takes the form of a 17th-century monastery built around the cave where St. John lived for two years (95-97 A.D.) while writing the Apocalypse. Inside, you can see the stone he is said to have used as a pillow. After this memorable tour, you will board the bus for the short trip back to the port.
